Persian Clover ‘eNhance’
(Trifolium resupinatum var. majus)
Originating in the Eastern Mediterranean, this clover’s fragrant and petite pink flowers provide beneficial insectaries, and the plants yield abundant regrowth, making it an excellent cover crop that is tolerant to high deck mowing/cutting back. It can be planted in the spring or fall in most areas of the US, with the exception of the SE which is better suited for fall planting. ‘eNhance’ has improved root development speed (helpful for sandy soil) and seedling vigor that allows for quicker establishment, weed suppression, nitrogen fixation, and low C:N (carbon to nitrogen) ratio which allows for a faster decomposition and thus making nitrogen available more quickly for the next crop from the leaves into the soil following termination. High protein levels and abundant flowers make ‘eNhance’ an excellent option for food plots and wildlife habitat. Very gently rake into soil surface just enough for soil contact as this species needs light to germinate. ‘eNhance’ Persian clover also handles a wide pH range, moderate salt tolerance and is cold tolerant down to -15° F. Persian clovers have the potential to suppress root pathogens. Termination methods include crimping or low mowing, then waiting a few weeks to till in if you would like to add higher organic matter to your soil. Mowing then tarping is also an effective way to fully terminate as a no-till method.
‘eHance’ is coated with Nitro-Coat®, an organic OMRI-listed Rhizobium inoculant.
