Found in chaparral and foothill woodlands from British Columbia to California and east to Montana and Wyoming, this perennial forms a dense, wooly mat with silvery gray leaves. It produces numerous yellow flowers in spring and summer and is best in full sun and dry conditions, with well-drained, sandy soils. Recommended for the front of the border and rock gardens. Flowers attract a variety of pollinators.
