Snow on the Mountain
(Euphorbia marginata)
As its namesake indicates, Snow on the Mountain’s brilliant white comes not from showy flowers, but rather white variegated showy bracts surrounding the small yellow-green true flowers. These plants make a standout backdrop in borders and meadows and brighten bouquets when grown for cut flowers. Native to the central United States, this annual deters deer, is an important late summer nectar source for both bees and butterflies alike and tolerates poor soils. Be aware that the milky sap (latex) from this plant family may cause skin irritation and can be toxic if ingested. Also known as Ghostweed.
