California Poppy
(Eschscholzia californica)
California Poppy is the state flower of California. It is a short-lived perennial in zones 8-10 and treated as an annual in colder zones. Plants grow 12-18 inches tall with blue-green, finely divided leaves. Flowers are deep orange to pale yellow and 2-4 inches across. Honey bees are often seen collecting pollen on the flowers. Plants typically bloom in 6-8 weeks from seeding. Reseeds reliably in many areas.
