African Daisy, Stick
(Dimorphotheca sinuata)
Although originally from Africa, this drought-tolerant annual is naturalized in parts of the United States. Plants grow in mounds and produce 2-inch wide orange, salmon, and white flowers. They make excellent cut flowers but will close at night in the garden or bouquet. African Daisy makes a nice groundcover when planted in large areas. The stick type of seed comes from the disk flowers in the center of the flower head.
